The M/V COYA Steamship was ordered by the Peruvian government to a Scottish shipbuilding company in the late 1800´s. All the parts were built and transported unassembled to the Peruvian port of Ilo, from where they where taken by mule to Puno, a journey of over 300 miles from Ilo´s sea level to Puno´s 12,500 feet above sea level. After more than 100 years of constant activity, the M/V COYA was discarded, abandoned and dismantled.
In the mid 1990´s it was purchased by a local businessman, who completely refurbished it, even buying back many original pieces that had been taken away. This evening guests will be treated to a truly historical dinner aboard the ship, in which the steamship’s owner will act both as
their host and guide.
