Founded in 1926, the Larco Herrera Museum
showcases remarkable chronological galleries
providing an excellent overview on 3,000
years of Peruvian pre-Columbian history.
Located in a unique vice-royal mansion of
the 18th century built over a 7th century
pre-Columbian pyramid, it features a famous
erotic archaeological collection. For an
unforgettable experience, Larco Herrera is
one of the few museums in the world where
visitors can also choose to enter the
storage area with its 45,000 classified
archaeological objects.
The National Museum of Archaeology,
Anthropology and History is the oldest state
museum in Peru. Its importance is rooted in
the vast and varied cultural patrimony
housed in its exhibition and store rooms.
Ceramics, textiles, metals, organic
materials and litchis related to invaluable
human remains preserved with techniques that
still surprise specialists, make up the
legacy of our pre-Hispanic past. Objects of
historic-artistic value and documentary,
photographic and bibliographic collections
given to the library tell of the Colonial
and Republican Periods.
