A 16th century Spanish monastery houses the Monasterio Hotel, Orient Express´ second property in Peru. The Monasterio Hotel remains a protected, national historical landmark, and has retained its colonial Renaissance style. Hotel Monasterio has 126 rooms. The decoration and furnishings combine the best of traditional Spanish colonial and modern Andean style, and many of the rooms have charming views of the city or the colorful rooftops of Cusco. Monasterio has counteracted the possibility of altitude-sickness problem by using an oxygen supplementation system in most of its rooms. “El Tupay” restaurant, formerly a seminary where priests studied the Bible, is the perfect setting for receptions and banquets. The “San Antonio Abad” chapel can be used for conferences, and the inner patios of the hotel are ideal locations for more informal venues.
